Hayden Lake, Washington

Crows Nest

Crows Nest is a family cabin that celebrates the material and structural character of the Northwest while perched high above Hayden Lake. Expansive openings and a cantilevered deck capture sweeping views of the water, turning the home outward to its dramatic setting.

Entry begins at the top level, where the house meets the steep hillside, then progresses down through a series of terraced levels toward the lake’s edge. The compact 50-by-50 parcel, combined with height restrictions and site constraints, became an opportunity to test creative solutions tailored to the family’s needs.

The result is a cabin that embraces challenge as catalyst — balancing structure, materiality, and view in a retreat that feels both daring and grounded in its place.
