As the third project at a key intersection in Spokane’s revitalized West End, Lolo Lofts continues the transformation sparked by Parkview West and Brick West Brewing Co. The 1926 automotive shop and warehouse has been rehabilitated into 11 apartments with ground-floor retail and office space, contributing to the district’s growing energy and character.
The design sought to preserve the industrial spirit of the building — from steel windows and exposed brick to the heavy timber bow-string trusses — while introducing modern amenities. The goal was to create authentic loft-style living, but limited ceiling height posed a challenge. By using cross-laminated timber for the mezzanine floors, the design team achieved a thinner structural system, gaining the critical inches required to meet code clearances and allow the loft configuration to work.
The result is a rare collection of true lofts in Spokane: elevated sleeping platforms, 12-foot ceilings, and exposed timber framing combine with contemporary comforts to create residences that embody both history and innovation, while reinforcing the broader revitalization of the West End.
