Located in Spokane’s Gonzaga University neighborhood, Alex — named as a play on its Hamilton Avenue address — serves as a developer’s showcase for how cost-effectiveness and thoughtful design can align. On a site smaller than a typical single-family lot, the project demonstrates a proof of concept for affordable yet appealing urban infill.
The design emphasizes a simple, bold form with a pragmatic site response and efficient layouts. Four three-bedroom townhouses maximize the footprint, with lower-level bedrooms adaptable for live-work use. Stoops create a threshold between public and private realms, discouraging loitering while reinforcing a pedestrian-scaled streetscape.
Durable materials pair with expressive details: metal siding and integrated exterior lighting that animates the façade. The lighting shifts colors to mark community moments — from Gonzaga game nights to holidays — transforming the building into a dynamic identity piece for residents and neighbors alike.
In a transitioning district, Alex raises the bar for design quality, establishing a modern urban presence while proving that affordability and architecture can coexist.
