Two pairs of brothers came together to realize a lifelong dream: opening a craft brewery that could help spark new life in Spokane’s West End. Their search led them to the 120-year-old Watts Automotive building, a structure whose original clear-span trusses once supported lifts and repair bays. Its tall ceilings and open floor plan proved ideal for the brewhouse, fermentation vessels, and a spacious taproom that could grow with the business.
The design sought to honor the building’s industrial past while creating a transparent connection to the brewing process. A storefront wall of glass places the brewhouse in full view, with the bar and taps strategically located as a vantage point overlooking the equipment. Guests experience both the airy volume of the taproom and the energy of production, bringing craft and community into one shared space.
Beyond the building, the brewery connects to an adjacent urban park — part of a city stormwater project — through six large operable doors. The brothers helped program the park as an active extension of the taproom, hosting festivals, food vendors, and community events.
Brick West Brewing Co. has since ignited a transformation in the West End, turning vacant corners into a vibrant destination and establishing itself as a cornerstone of Spokane’s brewery scene.
